Public Sector Leadership Development Program

Welcome to UPEI’s Public Sector Leadership Development Program

The University of Prince Edward Island’s Public Sector Leadership Development Program is  dynamic, interactive, practical, and includes modules that are relevant to the public sector. The program is linked to the workplace with group study teams and access to professional coaching.

As any organization, the Public Service in PEI and Canada continues to face many challenges: increasing demands for more and better services, scarcity of resources, globalization; and the broadening reach of communication technology. These demands affect workloads and relationships.

Studies show leadership development continues to be a high priority for organizations. With the growing complexity of the public sector environment and leadership responsibilities, the role of the leader is all the more challenging. While there are many views on how the public sector should respond to these challenges, one common view is the need for excellence in leadership.

Leaders must exhibit good relational and communication skills, they must help their teams and organizations navigate change; they must build trust and engage employees in creating high performing organizations.
Participants in our program learn from leading faculty and practicing professionals from across Canada and are immersed in an environment that provides them with the time to learn, engage, reflect, and practice new behaviors.

Participants will start their leadership development journey with the following:

  • Learning modules based on the leadership competencies needed to thrive in the public sector
  • Access to professional coaching support throughout the program
  • Group study teams and peer support
