In association with partners, the Centre for Life-Long Learning offers a wide range of continuing education courses that can be studied from home or the office through the Internet. All courses aim at professional development, building direct job-related skills.
Online courses are available through this website in the following areas.
The courses are self-paced, can be started at any time, and can be completed at any time over a 12-week period (12 months if you purchase a course bundle). All are practical, work-related courses rather than academic courses counting towards the University's degree programs.
There are no examinations or assignments to be sent in for marking, but a number of the courses have techniques for self-assessment, so you can check on your progress.
To find full details, click Learn It Online and the 'Course Catalog' button.
Courses prepare for the following certification in Learn It Online:
A comprehensive optional tutorial (pdf format) will ensure that you can navigate the Learn It Online website with ease. Note that initially UPEI will be offering Learn It Online courses in self-paced mode only; instructor facilitated courses will be added if there is an indication of demand.
When you are ready, enter the Learn It Online site. Then, look through the catalog to find the course of courses that interest you. Click the 'Enroll' button next to the course you wish to take, and fill in the form.
After you submit the form, you will be given payment instructions. After the payment has been received, you will receive an email giving you the access key. Using that key, you will be able to access the course materials for a period of twelve weeks.
If you wish to take a number of online courses, the fee for the fifth course will be waived, where the course is of the same value, or lower in cost, to the average of the first four courses taken. You will need to contact the Centre in the usual way when signing up for the fifth course, but no cost will be applied.
All you need is a reasonably current computer with Web access. For most courses, any standard operating system from Windows 95 or MacOS 8.5 onwards will suffice, as will any browser from Netscape 4.5, Internet Explorer 5.0 and AOL 5.0 and onwards (some IT courses will have specific additional requirements). See the tutorial (pdf) for full details on computer requirements.
