"EXPLORE was my best summer and it was so cool! The gang was really fun and I will remember this summer for the rest of my life... thanks everyone."

The UPEI Explore Program is a wonderful opportunity for youth to live in Prince Edward Island for a spring or summer and learn English. The program is open to both Canadian and International students and is available as a three, four, or five week program. For International students, the summer is as much an introduction to Canada and Prince Edward Island as it is an opportunity to learn English. Most of our Canadian students receive funding from the Canadian federal government as a bursary to pay for the program.
UPEI will be offering two programs in 2012:
The UPEI Explore Program is a very demanding and intense English immersion program. Students live in residence on campus along with the Program Activity Coordinator and Activity Supervisors and take meals at the university cafeteria. On weekdays, students participate in formal class time in the mornings, workshops in the afternoon, and activities in the evenings. Students also participate in activities during the weekend. All classes, workshops, activities, and even free-time is conducted and supervised in English. In reality, the total time spent learning English is much more demanding and intense than the classroom work alone indicates. On any given day, a student will spend as many hours learning English as one might spend working at a full-time job - and perhaps even more.
Since the program is so intensive, it is not uncommon for our students to also obtain a credit at their high school, CEGEP, college, or university for completing our EAL Program. To do so, a student must “challenge for credit” with their home school. We would be more than happy to assist in this by providing your school administration with documentation that further explains our program and outlines the number of hours spent learning English.
