Getting Unstuck: Addressing Strong Emotions and Resistance in Conflict Resolution

Strong emotions and resistance are barriers to conflict resolution. Recognizing the contribution of and effectively addressing these barriers are key to interest-based conflict and problem-solving. This course will provide people with the knowledge and skills to value, recognize, and overcome strong emotions and resistance thereby helping the parties become willing participants in win-win solutions. This course will be especially useful for managers and human resource staff who have responsibilities for workplace harmony.

  • Identify common resistance and motivation
  • Tools for self awareness
  • Increased comfort in the midst of strong emotions (yours and theirs)
  • Communication skills to address strong emotions and resistance
  • Applying skills at each step of the Interest-Based process, including pre-meetings
  • Boundaries for creating safety and appropriate disclosure
  • Prerequisites: Introduction to Interest-Based Conflict Resolution

$749/$769.  Participants enrolled in the Certificate in Conflict Resolution Studies are eligible for the reduced course fee.
