Generating Settlement Options and Closing the Agreement

This is an advanced level mediation course teaching the skills for finding solutions and achieving settlement in mediation.  Participants will develop the skills required to formulate a workable statement of the problems to be solved, create multiple options for settlement, choose the best options and close the agreement.

This interactive, experiential 2-day course focuses on steps 4, 5 and 6 of the interest-based conflict resolution process and builds on the communication, active listening and problem-solving skills taught in the prerequisite course (see below). This course is a required component of the certificate program.

 
Who should attend

Anyone wishing to enhance their skills in finding options for settlement and closing agreements.


You will learn how to:

  • frame the issues in a way that invites creative, mutual gain options for settlement
  • use brainstorming and other techniques to identify options for resolving disputes
  • keep the focus on interests
  • evaluate options and reach agreement
  • draft a memorandum of settlement

Introduction to Interest-Based Conflict Resolution and either Interest-Based Mediation or Interest-Based Facilitation
