Experience has shown that candidates need the opportunity for coaching and concentrated practice of the process and skills of conflict resolution for two principal purposes:
Graduates of the Certificate in Conflict Resolution Studies Program or candidates who have completed Introduction to Interest-Based Conflict Resolution, Interest-Based Mediation, and other courses for a minimum of 126 credits.
Content
1) Cases covering a diversity of situations will be the basis for simulations of mediations or negotiations or facilitations.
2) Review material, films, instructor presentations and demonstrations will be used in response to group needs.
Instructor/Coaches
Qualified Centre Faculty will guide all group instruction and offer detailed critique of individual participant performance.
Team organization
Registrants will be organized into practice groups of four (4) to six (6) members under the direction of an instructor/coach. Members will have three principal roles.
1) Conduct simulations in the role of mediator or negotiator or facilitator,
2) Act as role players in the case simulations
3) Offer constructive criticism of colleague performance in 1)
Format
1) Day 1 sessions will provide an orientation, course materials and team goals. NOTE: To allow time for team practice sessions, there will normally be an interval of several months between Day 1 and Days 2 and 3.
2) Day 2 team sessions will be set to give each registrant
a) an opportunity to conduct one simulation in a role as mediator, or negotiator, or facilitator;
b) participation in a key role and critic in at least one other simulation.
3) Day 3 sessions will debrief the group experience and provide instruction as needed for major difficulties encountered in the group sessions.
